Originally from Cleveland she spent more than 10 years working in the industry in Los Angeles. In Decembers meeting she will discuss ways in which you can take your “good” film and make it “great” through the performances of the actors. She will cover what to look for in the audition process and point out the key signals of a great actor. Then she will cover what to do to get the best performance possible out of any cast. Filmmakers have a lot of responsibilities and so much time and money are spent on the technical side of the process and oftentimes the actors get the least amount of attention yet the performances, especially in low budget movies, are the make or break factor. A fan of effects wizard Ray Harryhausen at an early age, Alan decided by the time he was 10, in 1970, that he wanted to grow up and make monsters. He saved his allowance for 2 years, bought an 8mm camera by the time he was 12, and spent the next few years trying to convince family and friends that his goals were realistic. They weren't convinced until a few years later when Star Wars came out, and Al's response was to build a working optical printer and rotoscope stand for the purpose of creating optical effects that would rival those in that ground breaking film. After a few years of courage mustering, Al headed to California with his extremely supportive wife and managed to quickly work his way into top effects studios, such as KNB Effects Group, Stan Winston Studios, Rick Baker's Cinovation, Steve Johnson's EdgeFX, and many others, on films such as Chronicles of Riddick, Van Helsing, From Dusk 'til Dawn, Passion of Christ, Blade, and many others. Being an advocate of the idea that the makeup efects people and the digital folks could co-exist in peace, he started studying the use of Lightwave 3D, After Effects, Photoshop, and several other programs early on. This gave him the opportunity came to move back to Ohio and still do the work he loves so well. Guest Speaker: Sean Reid
Director/Producer of now distributed feature film Redemption

Topic: Director Reid will talk about his experiences in making the film, working with actors, editing online/offline, and finally the process of getting distributed.

Producer-Director Sean Reid was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Reid was exposed to all facets of the creative process at an early age. He was accepted to American Film Institute’s Youth and Film Program, Reid wrote, produced and directed short films during his pre-teen years. Later Reid developed his filmmaking skills as a first assistant director on several independent features and music videos. Reid’s television production experience includes music supervisor/producer for "America’s Funniest Home Videos"; assignment editor for the CBS program "Day and Date"; and assignment manager for E! News Daily. Reid has written and produced numerous broadcast television music segments, including performances by Everclear, Peter Frampton, Robert Palmer, Steel Pulse and Smashmouth. He also directed a music video for the musical artist Angelo (from the band Fishbone). Reid has produced and directed the feature length video "The Last Cabaret," and also wrote, produced and directed a public service announcement (35mm) for Cocaine Anonymous called "Smokescreen." In January of 2002 he directed and co-produced the DVD Premiere Awards for the Daily Variety at the Wiltern Theater with host Ben Stein. During 2003, Reid completed "Redemption." An independent feature film that he co-wrote, produced and directed, "Redemption" tells the gripping story of a middle-class, African-American actor’s struggle with Hollywood’s temptations and his own integrity. Artisan Home Entertainment/Lions Gate released “Redemption” on home video December 16, 2003 in the United States and Canada.

Special Guest: Mark Bosko
Author of The Complete Independent Movie Marketing Handbook
Mark Steven Bosko, author of “The Complete Independent Movie Marketing Handbook,” and contributor to MovieMaker, IndieSlate, Videomaker and Millimeter magazines, has served in various capacities as writer, producer, director and distributor on six independent features, including the cult classic horror comedy, Killer Nerd, which was a widely popular video rental item in North America, as well as enjoying sales success in far-flung locales such as Malaysia, Mexico and Sweden. The movie, made for $12,000, could be found in major video chains across the country, was featured on CNN and Entertainment Tonight, and was eventually sold to Troma Pictures – where it became one of their customers’ most requested re-released films of all time. Bosko’s last produced film, Pig, was regionally released to the home video market, finding chain store sales success in New York, Florida, and Ohio. Bosko is also helming marketing activities for a new reality-based horror feature, June Nine, and in addition to his direct filmmaking and distributing experience, Bosko works as a public relations and marketing professional, assisting the promotional campaigns for his own and other filmmakers’ product. Recent work includes Michael Wiese’s upcoming feature Bali Brothers and Stefan Avalos’s (of The Last Broadcast fame) Ghosts of Edendale. Bosko also works as a marketing coordinator for Michael Wiese Productions (www.mwp.com).
